Any coffee nut located around the Portland area knows Stumptown’s appeal. They take pride in their beans and even go so far as to demand the same from any retailers willing to sell their product. The coffee that Stumptown uses to create its sought-after roasts isn’t procured easily. Sorenson gained his reputation by traveling to different countries in search of the most complex, interesting coffee varietals he could find, and then working with the farmers directly and paying them significantly more than fair-trade prices. He also would go one step further than most roasters by buying equipment for farmers to make their jobs easier and flying them to the Northwest so they could talk about their coffee directly with customers. In a time when everyone wants to tighten up their finances and store up for a depression, one must consider the finer things in life. If you don’t treat yourself to quality food or dining out with friends, then what is life for? It’s nice to see higher quality companies such as Stumptown thrive.
